Spring/Summer Term

The spring/summer term begins with the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSC) Spring Break and concludes at the end of July. The cost for the spring/summer term is $1,200. This fee includes the Spring Break Trip, the Spring Racing Season and Summer Rowing. This fee does not include the expenses for athletes invited to compete in the Youth National Invitational (Cincinnati, OH) during the first week of June and the travel expenses for the summer regattas (Badger State Games and the Duluth international Regatta).

  • The spring/summer term kicks off with the spring break trip. This is an integral part of the Camp Randall rowing experience and all rowers are strongly encouraged to attend. 40% of “on the water” rowing experience each spring happens in Tennessee during the MMSD Spring Break. The portion of the spring/summer term fee attributable to the Spring Break Trip is $600 and includes bus to and from Tennessee, housing on houseboats, all meals, coaches fees, rental of equipment, and transporting boats. The trip is 9 days long. All coaches and parent chaperones travel with the team.
  • For rowers unable to participate in spring break trip, the fee for the remaining spring/summer term is $600. This fee covers daily operation expenses for the Spring Junior Racing season, including coaching stipends, shell insurance, equipment rental fees, boathouse expenses, gas, maintenance fees for launches & motors, etc., and allows Junior athletes to participate in all team practices through the conclusion of the Spring/Summer term on July 31. Also included in this fee is regatta and travel costs for the Spring Junior racing season, including regatta entry fees, bus rental, shell rental, trailer expenses, food, housing, tow vehicle fuel and other costs associated with travel and regattas (other than the spring break trip and the summer regattas). These include the St. Louis Invitational (St. Louis, MO), Greater Chicago Rowing Championships (Crystal Lake, IL), Brittingham Regatta (Madison, WI) and Midwest Youth Championships (Cincinnati, OH)
  • Rowers successfully competing at the Midwest Youth Championships in Cincinnati, OH are invited to compete for national honors in the Youth National Invitational Regatta, in Cincinnati, OH and should estimate that this trip will be an additional cost of around $350 to $400 per rower, which covers travel, hotel, race registration and meals.
  • The spring/summer term includes rowing opportunities for junior rowers throughout the summer. The Junior crew usually participates in the Badger State Games (Appleton, WI) and the Duluth International Regatta (Duluth, MN). The regatta entry fees, bus rental and other travel expenses are not included in the $1,200 Spring/Summer term fee. The fees related to these regattas are determined based upon the number of rowers participating in the event. Typically, the charges are about $150 per rower.
