Spring Middle School Crew
March 15 – May 29, 2021
Our spring middle school program is back! We are excited to offer a 10-week program this spring; bringing the sport of rowing to area 6th-8th grade students. This program will focus on the FUNdamentals of rowing in a safe environment. Due to COVID, we are operating under modified programming and have special protocols in place. Please review our procedures HERE.
This spring we will start on-land; learning more about the sport, working on teamwork, and gaining basic principals that are important to the success of each individual. Our middle school crew will work on agility, strength, and teamwork in a socially-distanced environment. Once Lake Monona thaws and it becomes safe, we will take what we’ve learned on land to the water in 1xs and “double bubbles” in which each athlete may row exclusively with one other teammate for the spring season. Once on the water, our athletes will gain a better understanding of the technical skills of the sport through sculling (rowing with two oars).
Our middle school crew is the perfect introduction to the sport for our young athletes. They will gain skill acquisition and develop comfort and confidence in small boats while in a fun and supportive learning environment. The program is designed to take advantage of the developmental needs and strengths of the athletes. No experience is necessary!
