Bucky’s Locker Room
Bucky’s Locker Room (BLR) is Camp Randall Rowing Club’s fall fundraiser. Bucky’s Locker Room, located within Camp Randall Stadium, gives CRRC four booths at each of the UW home games to sell UW licensed merchandise. In exchange, CRRC receives a significant amount of revenue. The booths are staffed by volunteer rowers and parents. Each booth needs to be staffed by a minimum of two people, which means we need at least eight volunteers per game. That’s 56 people volunteering once for the seven game football season.
BLR requires at least one person in each booth to have worked a booth in 2010 or to have attended a one-hour formal training session in 2011. The training is held at Bucky’s Locker Room, which is on the field level of Camp Randall Stadium just inside the main entrance on Monroe Street.
Working at the booth is about a 6-hour commitment. About 3.5 hours before the game, the volunteers meet in front of the main entrance to the stadium and receive passes for game day. They are required to set up the booth, sell merchandise before, during, and after the game, and then reorganize and put away the merchandise. Volunteers are dismissed at the end of the 5th quarter.
Erg-A-Thon
The CRRC Erg-A-Thon is held during the winter season and has become one of our top fundraising events. On the Erg-A-Thon date, ergs are set up at Hilldale Mall, and rowers complete 10,000 meters between 4-6 PM. Rowers collect pledges during the two months prior to the event, and passers-by can donate on the spot while the rowers are erging.
In January, rowers receive a packet containing a sponsor sheet, copies of solicitation letters, and CRRC envelopes for mailing letters to friends and family. The goal is for each rower to collect $250 in pledges. The erg-a-thon has helped the club purchase a truck, boats and other vital equipment.
