We have a brief update on MB to share: MB was found to have a very
large ovarian cyst, which was completely removed. As expected, she is
incredibly relieved to have the surgery over, but now comes the healing
phase. Not surprisingly, she’s having quite a bit of pain and not
sleeping well during these first days. Please hold off on any visits
until after she is home and she gives us the word that she’s up to
seeing visitors.

MB and Mo are deeply touched by all of the messages and well wishes
they are receiving, so keep those coming. They have the laptop at the
hospital so sending emails is a great way to reach them.

CRRC will be hosting a regatta on Lake Monona on Thursday, July 26.

Our Junior rowers, We-Can-Row and Learn-to-Row participants will be
racing, in addition to Camp Randall alum! Promises to be a fun event!
Racing will be held in the late afternoon, beginning around 5 pm,
followed by some great food and drink at the Brittingham Boathouse.
Bring chairs and a dish to pass.

2012/2013 US Rowing Scholastic Honor Roll

Rowers that will be seniors this coming academic year are invited to
apply for the US Rowing Scholastic Honor Roll. The nomination form and
accompanying information regarding qualifications can be found at

Fall Clothing Orders

DEADLINE July 30!!: This is our ONLY clothing order before the fall
regatta season!! There are two files to note: the [6]ORDER FORM and
the I[7]NFORMATION SHEET. Please open each for all the information you
need. Also there is a[8] measurement guide to help you with fitting if
you missed the tryon last week. Note on Pricing: You’ll see that many
of the items have a range of prices. This is because we can get
discounts at higher quantities for some items. We will tell you your
final cost once all orders are placed.
Note on Windbreakers:We can only order these if we have at least SIX
orders because the price jumps to $140 per jacket otherwise. Make
checks payable to CRRC
* Clothing checks MUST be separate from rowing fees and given/sent to

Parking!

Alert!The County Parks Parking Enforcement officers have been ticketing
cars parked longer than the 3 hour limit in the lot adjacent to the
boathouse ($25.00). If you plan to be at the boathouse longer than 3
hours, it’s probably prudent to park across North Shore Drive in the
gravel Findorff parking lot which we routinely use for regattas. There
has also been a warning regarding parking along the sidewalk directly
next to the lake which is a common occurrence when picking up kids
after practice. North Shore Drive is not the safest road to cross by
foot, especially during rush hour, making pick up along this sidewalk
something of a necessity. Please stay in your car if you are waiting
along this sidewalk to pick up your rower as it will likely reduce your
chances of getting a ticket. CRRC is trying to work with the city on
this issue.

Taste of Madison

Sunday Sept 2! Time: 10:00am to 1:00 pm, Where: Capitol Square, What:
Light grounds maintenance and a FREE t-shirt!!! Captain Eryn Bain has

Bucky’s Locker Room

Coming Soon! We will once again be able to work Bucky’s Locker Room
kiosks at all Badger Football home games. This involves selling
clothing and fun Badger stuff at 3 kiosks located inside Camp Randall
Stadium. Although you may not be able to see the game, you’ll have just
as much fun hearing the crowd and interacting with all of our crazy
Badger fans. It is a long day, but a lot of fun and it makes a HUGE
chunk of change for the club. Once we get all details, we will have
sign ups available via Signup Genius. Home game dates are as follows
(times are not final yet): 09/01 – Northern Iowa 09/15 – Utah State –
will need Novice rowers and parents to fill all slots as Varsity rowers
will be at the Milwaukee River Challenge 09/22 – UTEP 10/06 – Illinois
10/20 – Minnesota 10/27 – Mich State – we will need parents to fill all
slots as rowers will either be in Indy or Columbus 11/17 – Ohio State

We offer a rowing program available to all high school students in Madison and the surrounding communities beginning in the fall. New members are welcome to join us at any time! We officially begin team practices on September 7th. There are no tryouts. Check out our website for more information and pictures. If you’re ready to register, you can complete that here. Summer Adult Workouts

Family & Friends Summer Evening workouts have begun.Your next
opportunity to join us is this Wednesday, June 20. We meet at the
boathouse at 6:15 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays; we finish up about 7:30
PM. On our first evening we reviewed erg technique, got a nice workout
including erging, core strengthening and stretching – all cooled by the
lake breeze. The workouts are a fundraiser for the Junior Scholarship
fund ($50 for one night/week or $100 for two nights/week – or
equivalent). Bring a water bottle and towel; wear anything except baggy
shorts. Come and try it!

Learn-To-Row

Summer Learn to Row Help Needed! CRRC parents: We need you help! Our
summer middle and high school Learn-to-Row programs begin on June 18th.
As of now, we have VERY low numbers of participants. Please help spread
the word about the awesome programming at CRRC. Talk to co-workers,
friends and neighbors! You can direct them to the Camp Randall website:
www.CampRandallRC.org for program info and registration. Basically,
there are nine MS sessions; each is one week long for 1.5 hours. There
are two HS sessions; each is three weeks long from 4-6:00p.m. We also
have [6]flyers to post and rack cards to hand out. If you’d like some,
please have your athlete pick them up at practice next week. Here is a
flyer for you to send out to anyone you think may be interested. Thanks
so much for your help!

Summer Regattas!

What’s coming up! The first is the Fox River Sprints, June 23, in
Appleton. The second is the Duluth International Regatta, July 13-15.
We’ll be renting buses for that trek, and camping at the regatta site
Friday and Saturday evenings. Finally, we’ll be hostin a regatta at the
end of the summer (date TBD) and will be inviting our alumni! We’ll see
if they still have what it takes to move those boats! Sign-up for our
two “away” regattas is underway. All you need to do is go to the
homepage of our website…you’ll find more info and links to register.
If your rower plans on racing in the Fox River Sprints, please register
soon!

Congrats to our Nationals Team!

Boys take 13th and Girls take 11th Place We had a great time down in
Tennessee and the weather even, mostly, held up for us. It was some
exciting racing there with a good showing from the midwest. There was
strong competition from some large teams and our Camp Randall Rowers
definitely proved they belonged there. The weekend wouldn’t have been
complete without our rendition of “Pomp & Circumstance” that we sang to
our graduating seniors!

1. Summer Learn to Row: Help needed

Summer Learn to Row

Help Needed! CRRC parents: We need you help! Our summer middle and high
school Learn-to-Row programs begin on June 18th. As of now, we have
VERY low numbers of participants. Please help spread the word about the
awesome programming at CRRC. Talk to co-workers, friends and neighbors!
You can direct them to the Camp Randall website: www.CampRandallRC.org
for program info and registration. Basically, there are nine MS
sessions; each is one week long for 1.5 hours. There are two HS
sessions; each is three weeks long from 4-6:00p.m. We also have flyers
to post and rack cards to hand out. If you’d like some, please have
your athlete pick them up at practice next week. Here is a [6]flyer
for you to send out to anyone you think may be interested. Thanks so
much for your help!

Practice Times

Next week M-F practice is optional from 4:15-6:30. The week of June
11-15 is off for everyone. Morning practice will begin on Monday June,
18th from 6:00-8:00a.m.!

Exchange Program -

We recently received a note from our former Oaracle writer about an
change to host an exchange student. Here is what she said: A few years
ago, our family hosted an exchange student from Brazil, and it was a
wonderful experience. I decided to start working with the placement
organization, International Student Exchange, as a way to “pay it
forward” and help bring other students and families together. I’m the
new area rep for Madison. This is my first week! I’m contacting all
the area schools, but I also need to reach out to potential host
families. CRRC came to mind when I found out a few of next year’s
exchange students are rowers.

Summer Workouts for Family and Friends! You’re Invited for Family and
Friends Summer Workouts: For a couple years now, we’ve enjoyed
beautiful summer evenings of erging and pilates on the Brittingham
Boathouse deck led by CRRC Coach Melinda Miles. We invite you to join
us this summer. Our workouts are open to family members of CRRC rowers
and their friends. The workouts are a fund-raiser for the CRRC junior
scholarship fund – the six-week session costs $50 for one night a week;
$100 for two nights a week. You can work as hard or take it as easy as
you want. Either way, until you’ve tried it, you can’t believe how
energized you feel after an erg session! And if we have enough people,
we can row on the water in the barge.
Please let Mel Vollbrecht know if you are interested – email
[8]melvollbrecht@gmail.com by June 10 and include your preferred
night(s) of the week and any weeks you will be out of town. We’ll pick
the evenings and weeks that work for the most people. Family and
Friends Workouts will begin right after Learn-To-Row and run from 6:15
to 7:30 PM on six selected weeks between June 18 and August 17.
