Phil grew up in New England and took his first strokes in the Harvard rowing tanks in 1978. He spent 20 years in the mountains of Colorado, where he made the conversion from alpine to Nordic skiing, first as an athlete, then as a coach. More recently, he returned to rowing and is excited to live in Madison and coach at CRRC. He has a 16 year old son and a 13 year old daughter. As an aspiring food connoisseur, he understands that bratwurst and ice cream are two of the five food groups, thus making Wisconsin the ideal place to be.

  • Currently working on becoming an Outdoor Emergency Care Instructor

Kristen worked at UW Health for 15 years as a Respiratory Care Practitioner on the Trauma Team. Currently, she is working with her husband Tony in their family owned and operated business: Custom Metals, Inc. Kristen is the proud mother of three daughters. Her two oldest are currently on the CRRC team. She is excited about their participation in a sport that is so near and dear to her heart. She is also thrilled to be involved again, this time, as a Camp Randall Coach.[/showhide]

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Shayla is a fan of all the seasons – even winter! When She’s not coaching, she is at work at Wisconsin Public Television. Shayla does lots of running, cross country skiing and biking, and she has a love of all things local. “Pizza is probably my kryptonite, closely followed by coffee and bacon.” Shayla began rowing in college and her novice year was very memorable – “I started knowing nothing about the sport and ended it racing at the NCAA Championships”. Molly Kollman
Coxwain & Novice Boys Coach

Molly returns to Camp Randall after starting her coxing career at CRRC in 2009. After four years at Camp Randall, Molly continued the sport as a varsity coxswain for the Syracuse University men’s rowing team all throughout college, helping the team record an eight place finish at the IRA National Championships in her senior season, the highest the team has placed since 2012.

After graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Molly returned to Madison where she now works as a scientist and coaches the novice boys and the coxswains at CRRC. In her spare time, Molly enjoys boxing, running and all things Syracuse Athletics.

Grace PetersonGrace Peterson

Novice Girls Coach

Grace was born and raised in Madison and is now a full-time student at UW-Madison studying Engineering Mechanics and Astronautics. She rowed on Wisconsin women’s open weight team this past year and is a Camp Randall alum. When she has free time, which is rare, she enjoys tutoring, throwing pots, and anything related to rockets.
