Congratulations to Erik Miller, new board president.
Erik Miller learned to row at the University of Washington where he was a two-time Pac10 Champion and letter winner. Upon graduation in 1997, Erik moved to the USRowing training center in Princeton, NJ where he trained for eight years as a lightweight member of the US National Rowing team. He rowed at the World Championships every year from 1997-2004, and competed internationally as a lightweight in singles, doubles, pairs, fours and eights. Erik was a world champion in the lightweight eight in 2000, and earned two bronze medals in the same event in following years. He also won FISA World Rowing Cup medals in the lightweight double in 2001, and light four and light pair in 2003.
Erik was a spare and travelled to Athens as a member of the 2004 USRowing Olympic Team. Upon retirement from competitive rowing in 2004 Erik was a volunteer coach at the University of Washington during the 2004-2005 season, where he assisted with the freshmen men. The following year he was a volunteer for the University of Wisconsin mens rowing team.
In the fall of 2006 Erik was hired as the head coach of the University of Wisconsin Lightweight women. During his tenure, the Badger lightweights won two IRA National Championships in the lightweight women’s eight. His teams also won the EAWRC Eastern Sprints Varsity Lightweight Eight title five of the six years he was lightweight coach, and his team won the Konrad Ulbrich lightweight team points trophy at EAWRC Sprints each year he was coach. His lightweights also won the Head of the Charles Lightweight Eight race three times during his six years, setting a new course record in 2010 which still stands. Miller left the University of Wisconsin after the 2012 season when his wife pursued a sports medicine fellowship at UCLA in Los Angeles.
During the 2012-2013 season, Erik was a volunteer coach with the UCLA women’s rowing team. He is currently a stay-at-home-dad and looks after his daughters Evelyn and Violet.
Erik has been on the Board of Directors at Camp Randall Rowing Club since the summer of 2015 and accepted the president position in January 2017.
Qualifications, Election and Term. The management of the Club is vested in a Board of Directors consisting of up to fourteen (14) members. All directors and officers are volunteers and no compensation is received by officers or directors.
