Official Race Results
Wow, racing season sure is underway. Last Saturday was an early, but awesome day as we headed to Chicago for our first-ever time participating at the Tough Cup Regatta. For those of you who weren’t in Chicago for the day – the weather couldn’t have been better. We had sunny and blue skies, it wasn’t too warm, and racing was wrapped up by about noon. That said, it wouldn’t be a regatta without some sort of delay and just before the first races were scheduled to come down, we were notified of a giant shipping barge heading down the course. After it passed, racing went off with great success.
The first events were boys’ and girls’ Varsity 8’s! The boys came down fast and finished third to our Chicago Rivals at New Trier. The Camp Randall Boys B-boat also finished 6th in the same event. Next was the girls’ Varsity 8 event and our Camp Randall – A boat finished a close second, which the B-boat was not too far behind, finishing in 4th.
After that came the Novice 4’s event! Both the boys and girls were able to rack up a few more points for Camp Randall in these events with first-place finishes on both sides. They also earned some awesome hardware for their efforts. Camp Randall’s boys and girls B-boats were both 3rd place in the 4’s events, too! It was awesome to see really good first races for many of our novice rowers!
Next up were the boys and girls Novice 8 events. Camp Randall took advantage of the day and each sent out an 8+ to race again. Since the schedule was somewhat compact, rowers from the boys and girls squad barely got to stand up between rowing to the start and racing a second time down the course. Varsity athletes carried the novice boats down to the docking area for them and quickly, they were off again for race #2. It was really impressive to see these first-year athletes jumping right back into their boats and the boys finished in 5th place, while the girls finished 3rd.
And last were the boys and girls Varsity 4 events. The boys A-boat was 2nd, the B-boat was 4th, the C-boat was 6th, and the D-boat finished in 9th place! On the girls’ side, the CRRC A-boat was 2nd, while the C-boat snuck ahead of the B-boat to finish 5th and 6th, respectively.
All in all, it was a really awesome day of racing for the entire team! For those athletes who raced twice, they rowed nearly 11 miles on Saturday – totally awesome! We have all been talking a lot about pushing a little bit harder and racing better each time we get out on the water and the results are proof that all of that work and intention is paying off. We’ll see you all again soon, ready to race, when we head south to Rockford on Sunday, October 11th for the Head of the Rock!
